Default Cube Technologies Lab · v0.1

What's this?

Jumpstart

This is Blender's Default Cube – the scene everybody sees the very first time Blender opens. You don't need Blender installed to start. Everything you learn here works exactly the same way in the real program.

How this page works

On the left: five small steps. In the middle: the cube. Here on the right: short explanations.

The Labels slider above the cube starts at 0. Try to guess first – then slide it up and check. Being wrong first is not a bug, it is how the idea sticks. When labels crowd, zoom in.

The three dots on each card are for you: red = still unclear, yellow = halfway, green = got it.

Mouse or trackpad?

Both work – here and in Blender. The page notices a MacBook trackpad by itself (you can also switch in the ⚙ menu).

  • Mouse: middle button (press the wheel) and drag = orbit · Shift + middle drag = pan · wheel = zoom
  • Trackpad: two fingers = orbit · Shift + two fingers = pan · pinch = zoom
  • No numpad? Use the Front / Right / Top buttons, or in Object Mode the keys 1 3 7

Real Blender on a Mac understands the same trackpad gestures out of the box. For views, click the coloured axis balls of the navigation gizmo in the top right corner of the viewport: −Y = Front, X = Right, Z = Top.
